REACH YOUR GOALS BY FINDING YOUR PURPOSE
Goal setting is advice you always hear from people…. but I’m sorry, I don’t think that’s always the best advice. I think you have to go a step further. What I mean is, in order to set good goals (meaning you can reach your goals without giving up) you have to align those goals with your purpose.
I mean, what the heck is manifestation anyways?
People in the “wellness” space were always saying that you get what you want out of life by manifesting your dreams and setting goals for yourself… That you have to create what you really want by putting that energy out into the world.
At first, I thought that advice sounded awesome, inspiring, and downright easy. I always considered myself a positive person, so I figured I’d be able to put good vibes out into the world and everything would come to me like a piece of cake at a birthday party. But oh man, was I shocked when reaching my goals was so much harder than I thought.
I mean, pshhhh, yeah, manifest your dreams…. but what the heck does that actually mean? What if I don’t know my dream? How can I figure out my purpose if I don’t even know what I really want? It sounds like great advice, but if you can’t make it meaningful, how is it supposed to help you accomplish your dreams?
Pick one word that embodies your purpose.
Thanks to watching Tony Robbin’s documentary on Netflix last night, I got the advice to boil down my life into one. single word.
One word that described my purpose down to my core.
Now that’s advice that’s life-changing.
What’s my one word? POWERFUL. I, Bree Shook, am a powerful human being down to my core.
So what’s the back story? Why does being powerful describe me? Why does it resonate with me so much that I can define myself so simply and easily? Well, being powerful isn’t always easy, and it absolutely came from a place of feeling powerless in my own life. I’ve been through so much more than I’ve shared in this blog, and one day perhaps I’ll share it. But for now, trust me in that being powerful comes from a journey of feeling weak, like I wasn’t good enough in the world, and like I had no power to be the person I knew deep down inside that I was.
I’ve been through so much more than I’ve shared in this blog, and one day perhaps I’ll share it. But for now, trust me in that being powerful comes from a journey of feeling weak, like I wasn’t good enough in the world, and like I had no power to be the person I knew deep down inside that I was.
So my advice is do some soul searching. Before you set out to manifest your dreams, make sure your dreams embody your purpose. Because even someone who accomplishes all of their goals can feel unsatisfied if that purpose isn’t the driving reason behind their life’s work. Here are 3 ways defining myself in one word gave me purpose:
3 REASONS TO DEFINE YOUR PURPOSE IN 1 WORD
1. Knowing I’m powerful gives me inspiration in a moment’s notice.
Instead of reverting to my own state of helplessness, I know I’m the boss of myself. When you know your word, just the thought of it gives you strength to carry on and dust yourself off. Even when you feel a little lost, or like you’re fighting your hardest to reach your goals, owning your purpose changes your state of mind. It provides direction and meaning, to help you choose your next moves so that you can do what gives your life true meaning. After all, life is all about going after what we’re most passionate about and what makes us the happiest versions of ourselves.
2. Embodying my purpose allows me to live authentically.
It’s not always easy to check in with yourself. Sometimes the other motives in life like relationships, career, and financial success take you away from your purpose. But knowing the one word that defines you helps you connect your actions with your purpose. So instead of reach goals and still feeling empty, you push yourself in the most rewarding ways possible.
3. Feeling the energy of my purpose reminds me of the bigger picture.
The small stuff doesn’t matter. At the moment it seems like it does, but in all honesty, the big picture goals are what drive us to do the small stuff. And while the little things add up, the bigger picture is what makes the small stuff positive, meaningful, and worthwhile. Knowing that I’m powerful allows me to take on the scary stuff that I might have ran from otherwise. Without my purpose, I wouldn’t be writing this post today 😉
