IS MINDFUL EATING RIGHT FOR YOU?
Heck yeah, mindful eating is an awesome tool for finding an easy and simple way to eat healthy! It’s great for healing your relationship with food after a strict diet. Plus, it’s also great for creating healthy eating habits that make you happy! But there are some mindful eating misconceptions that lead to powerful questions. Like…
- How do I find a balance between eating healthy and indulging?
- What are the best eating habits for me?
- How do I know when I’m getting too strict or too relaxed?
But there’s good news! Mindful eating is a lot simpler with one specific tactic: meal prep!
MINDFUL EATING NEEDS TO BE CUSTOMIZED
The biggest issue with mindful eating comes with the fact that it’s very open-ended compared to other eating habits. A strict diet is almost easier at first because food rules make it easy to say “yes” or “no” to specific foods. But mindful eating isn’t like that! There’s no specific road-map that determines which foods are right for you or not.
HOW MEAL PREP TACKLES MINDFUL EATING MISCONCEPTIONS
Mindful eating means that you’re able to listen to your body and choose what you want to eat…. But it’s not as challenging as it sounds when you meal prep! Why? Because meal prep allows you to…
- Have delicious and healthy foods ready to eat.
- Save time in the kitchen and during meal time.
- Simplify the decision-making process when trying to decide what to eat!
But there are still a few misconceptions when it comes to mindful eating, so let’s tackle them!
3 MINDFUL EATING MISCONCEPTIONS
1. In order to eat mindfully, you have to choose what you want to eat in the moment.
First off, mindful eating is about listening to your body in the moment – but you don’t have to choose what you want to eat right then and there! It might seem like a strange concept – I mean, mindful eating is supposed to be about “listening to your body”, right? How will I know what my body wants tomorrow? But it totally works…
In fact, one of my favorite parts about meal prepping is that I don’t have to constantly choose what I want to eat in the moment.
Because I have an emotional eating background, I struggle with making healthy choices around meal time if I’m stressed. If I’m not meal prepping, I can easily reach for scoops of almond butter straight from the jar for lunch instead of sitting down to a real, balanced meal. That’s why removing the stress of cooking allows my body to relax around meal times – which means that it’s way easier for me to eat mindfully!
2. Mindful eating means you don’t have to eat healthy foods.
Mindful eating is about figuring out YOUR specific eating style… the one that works best for you. We don’t have to eat healthy all the time, but we do have to eat healthy MOST of the time if we want to feel good and give ourselves the best chance at long and healthy lives.
While the balance of healthy eating and indulging works differently for everyone, we all do best when we make eating healthy a priority.
That’s why meal prep is so helpful! When you have healthy foods prepared, you end up eating healthy because they’re easily accessible. Then, when you’re invited to go out for ice cream or have a killer craving for some brownies, you can indulge without the least bit of “dessert guilt”.
3. Eating mindfully takes a lot more time out of your schedule.
This misconception is actually not a true misconception. Eating mindfully CAN take a lot of time out of your schedule – which is why meal prepping is so important!!! Meal prep strategies make it so much easier for you to be a mindful eater because it frees up your time! Just think about how much time it takes to sit down to a balanced healthy meal when you have a busy schedule. There’s just not enough time to have 3 relaxed meals at the table when you have tons of things to do.
The time saved every day is meal prep’s greatest advantage… and it makes mindful eating so much easier!
Choosing the right meal prep strategy for you means that you can eliminate the long process of deciding what to eat, finding the ingredients, cooking it, and finally getting it together on a plate in front of you. Meal prep allows you to go straight from the fridge to your table – how can you be more relaxed than that?!

TAKEAWAY: MEAL PREP CRUSHES MINDFUL EATING MISCONCEPTIONS
Mindful eating misconceptions are exactly that, misconceptions. They’re just not true! The most powerful takeaway is that YOU have the power to choose what’s best for you at any given moment. And that only gets easier when you meal prep!
