When I originally talked about my experience not ordering what I really wanted to at brunch, so many of you connected with it that I HAD to share it here!! The whole thing comes down to 3 major food freedom strategies that I learned at about going out to eat, and I’m sharing those with you right now.

The thing I’d like to point out is: ordering my plate was still such a WIN. I did better! I got bread! which is something I struggled with in the past and I was extremely proud of myself for doing so. BUT, I still did NOT get the scary thing I really wanted… pancakes. This was a while back and TONS has changed since we last went out to this brunch place, so next time we go, I’m getting what I really want. So let’s go over what I learned.

3 THINGS I LEARNED ABOUT FOOD FREEDOM AT BRUNCH
1. ORDER TO BE FULL VS. GET SOMETHING LIGHT
Mick orders based on how FULL it’s going to make him, while I looked at how LIGHT the meals are. Remind me again why I should order a meal just to be hungry a little while later? MY BODY CAN HANDLE MORE FOOD.
2. EAT WHAT’S DELICIOUS VS. HEALTHY
Mick picks food based on deliciousness, which makes total sense if you’re going out of your way to try a new restaurant and enjoy a meal with your family. DUH. But in my mind, I sat there thinking, “how can I pick a healthy meal so that it’s closest to how I normally eat?” aka at the time, super clean and super healthy.
3. GET WHAT I WANT VS. WHAT I CAN HAVE
The biggest mistake I made was asking myself what can I HAVE, instead of what do I WANT? I thought in terms of looking at the menu and eliminating the things that I DEFINITELY wouldn’t be able to eat, then pick from the remaining (most boring) things on the menu. But what’s the point of going out of your way to a new restaurant? EATING SOMETHING YUMMY AND SATISFYING and getting what you want!
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE
It’s not about being perfect and ordering like Mick from now on, it’s about PRACTICING! It’s about changing the questions you ask yourself when you’re ordering at a restaurant or cooking for yourself, so you can have a relationship with food that actually makes you happy.
