HAPPY IS HEALTHY, NOT SKINNY
Being skinny is a huge goal for a lot of girls. In my experience, when I lost 25 pounds, weight loss did not make me a better person, more fun to be around, or more confident in myself. In fact, the opposite was true. In my quest to be “skinny” and lose weight, I became obsessed with counting calories and more critical of my body than ever.
While at one-time being skinny was my goal, that has long since changed. Fast forward 5 years and I can tell you being skinny did NOT make me happy. It didn’t solve my problems…. and in fact, it gave me even more problems because I did not approach weight loss in a healthy way.
Because of my journey, I learned that today being skinny connects with unrealistic goals I used to have about my body. For me, being skinny implies something radical, and it resonates negatively with the perception of my own body.
I Thought Being Skinny Would Make Me…
It Actually Made Me…
- Physically cold
FOCUS ON HOW YOU FEEL IN YOUR SKIN
Feeling healthy, strong, and energetic is how I gained the confidence to be the person I wanted to be… Being skinny didn’t make me happy! In fact, unhealthy weight loss with a purpose to be “skinny” made things worse, not better.
The most most important lesson I can share is that weight loss is an effect of a healthy, balanced life.
Don’t lose weight because you think that is going to bring you happiness because it’s not going to bring you what you want – especially not without a greater cost. Unless your weight is physically debilitating, your life isn’t going to get better by being “skinny”. If you want to be happy, be HEALTHY.
Here’s how I did it:
- I stopped focusing only on weight loss, and focused on living a healthy life!
- I took a good look the role sugar was paying in my diet.
- I learned real food recipes.
- I went grocery shopping – you have to buy good food to eat good food.
- I move my body a little every day – in a way that I enjoy.
- I live in the present, think about my future, but I don’t worry about the past 🙂
TAKEAWAY: YOU DON’T NEED TO CHANGE TO BE HAPPY
While I absolutely know that a lot of this stuff is easier said than done, it’s the truth. When I took care of myself instead of just focusing on my being skinny or getting abs – I learned that the real key to happiness is not what I had to change, but realizing how great my body already was and learning to keep it healthy!
